Secrets at Number 6

Review by Freya, Camborne Science and International Academy Cornwall
I enjoyed this book because it had a very interesting plot and a gripping storyline. Every time I picked it up and started reading it I didn’t want to put it back down. This book was set in Edwardian London. My favourite character in this book is Theo because he is very adventurous, fun, and is willing to take risks and stand up for what he thinks is right, even if that meant standing alone. In the book, Theo becomes friends with Twelve-year-old trainee housemaid, Alice, and they go on to solve the robbery of the No.6 household.

From reading this book, I learnt that in Edwardian London, the house staff had very stereotypical roles; the women would be cooks, cleaners and maids, and the men would be butlers, footmen, and chauffeurs. The plot was very exciting and made me want to read more, as well as including an unlikely friendship. The thing that stands out for me with this book is the author’s ability to combine mystery and light-heartedness.

I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who enjoys thrill, mystery and friendship. As a result of reading this book I got an insight as to what it would have been like to live in Edwardian London, and to how different people were treated. I really enjoyed reading this book and can’t wait to read the next part of the series. I would extremely recommend giving this a go if you enjoy mystery and history.

It was interesting as it showed me people’s lives living in that time. Reggie, because he has a strict, wealthy parent but he socialises with peasants and he goes against his fathers rules with no fear of getting told off.

Mabel because she locked the friends out of the house to get them stuck on the roof so she could tell the head of the house and get them fired. I learnt how people of that time lived. It was very anticipating, and I wanted to dive further into the book. I learnt the meaning of enigmatic, someone is very secretive about something.

I enjoyed the entirety of the book as everything was very exciting and intriguing.

I would recommend the books as it is a very cunning, mysterious book and includes mystery and ghosts. It also shows friendship and adventure.
