The Body in the Blitz

Review by Sophie, Archbishop Temple School Preston
When I started reading this book, I thought it was more murder than history, but I have been proven wrong! It was during World War II, that made it interesting because they were spies for the Nazi resistance and had bombs and air raids to worry about. I found May quite interesting because she was a very lively, bouncy, loud character who, unlike her friend, didn’t care about what others thought about her! I didn’t like Mrs Charney because she was always mean and misunderstanding, and of course, the murderer. I now know that bombs fall in a straight line…fun fact! It was a thrilling and exciting plot, a twist on every page, a new discovery in every chapter and an unputdownable book! May definitely stands out to me the most in this book, maybe because she is who I want to be, maybe because she will always do what others won’t, maybe because she is loud! I would recommend this to everyone who is interested in crime, truth and unpredictable plots…and readers who like to escape reality for a bit more excitement. I learnt lots of Irish slang, and what’s even better in there is a glossary at the back for lots of words you may not understand! I love this book through and through, and I thoroughly enjoyed it, so much I couldn’t put it down…I got told off for that!

I really enjoyed the book: Body in the Blitz however it took me quite a while to get into and it wasn’t until I got to the middle of the book when I started to get intrigued and interested at what was going to happen next. My fav character was May because she isn’t the stereotypical detective but throughout the book you learn more about her characteristics. She expresses her emotions a lot and she isn’t afraid of telling others about how she feels because of a certain way they act-I think that is what swayed me to her. At the start of the book, I also liked Mrs and Mr Goodchild and felt sorry that they had no news of their daughter Anna Goodchild however I felt betrayed and shocked that they both tried to kill Mrs Fig who although was a nosy neighbour didn’t deserve to get murdered. The thing I also liked about this book is that you thought it was nearly done but then there was even more that you dint expect and was surprising when it happened. I think I would read the rest of the series and I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who likes an exciting and interesting book or anyone who likes mystery books.
