Enola Holmes and the Black Barouche

Review by Nimrat, Seva School Coventry
Enola Holmes is a detective that is on another mystery bought by Miss Letitia Glover to uncover the “unexpected death” of her twin sister Flossie. Enola is ready to uncover the truth about this earl. During this mystery it found out that this isn’t the first time this Earl’s wife has had an unexpected death with no body to explain.

The story is set in the times of the Victorians making it easier to imagine life back then: while reading this book the vocabulary improved not only my work in History but also English! I found Enola because of her wits and because she is the sister of Sherlock Holmes. The plot was exciting, and it made my heart drop! I would definitely recommend this to my peers.

Review by Jewel, Archbishop Temple School Preston
The book Enola Holmes and the Black Barouche is one of my top all-time favourites now! The book had many compelling and plot-twisting change of events and kept me reading until the very end. The book was slightly connected to historical fiction, which made the book sort of eerie and mysterious, and gave the readers a sense of thrill and excitement. It was also a great page-turner due to the British history and royalty combined with the olden-day routines and elements of the past. Vocabulary was very well advanced and relevant, and also made the book clearer and more specific. As the book contained many famous fictional-characters, and as it was written by a well-known author, it can attract a wide audiences and readers will like to read the story. My favourite characters were Enola Holmes herself and Earl Caddie, as they were the main protagonist and antagonist respectively, and appeared in most parts of the book. These characters also had peculiar characteristics and attitudes that were mentioned in the book, which made them attractive. The book is worth reading for those interested in thrillers and crime fiction (just like me!), and I recommend it for everyone with a craze for mysteries.
