How has the First World War been memorialised?
Tamsin Leyman
War memorials are part of our everyday landscape, and many students will walk past their local war memorial without ever considering its significance and meaning. This lesson examines national war memorials around the world, allowing students to compare the British approach to other nations in the First World War to consider what influences approaches to memorialisation. It supports them to interrogate memorials as interpretations and understand that they are designed to represent national narratives about war and remembrance.
