Gods and Warriors

Young Quills reviews

1. Gods and Warriors is an enticing historical/fantasy adventure set in the Bronze Age in Ancient Greece. The story is focussed around Hylas, an outsider, who is running for his life. The black warriors are after him and he doesn't know why. He begins his quest to find his sister; his only friends are Pirra, the angry daughter of a high priestess, and a magical dolphin called Spirit.

The language in this book is perfect for our age. It is not terribly challenging but enough to make it a complex and a really good, enjoyable read.

The setting is interesting: the book is set in a fantasy Ancient Greece and there are details of mountainsides.

I love the characters in Gods and Warriors. The characters are very superstitious, the ‘Sky Father', ‘Earth Shaker' (I picture him as an angry bull) and ‘The Lady Of The Wild Things' are just a few of the gods to whom the characters make offerings and sacrifices

Michelle Paver paints such a picture in my head - I just couldn't stop reading. it was such a page turner. I think this is the best book I have ever read and it is all perfect - the plot, setting and the characters.

I hope you will read Gods and Warriors and love it just as much as I did.

2. Gods and Warriors is a really enjoyable book, it almost feels like you are Hylas at times. The thing that got me most intrigued was the adventure - and the daggers will to survive. Michelle Paver has made history come to life with her way with words. I'd love to read her other books!

3. I thoroughly enjoyed Gods and Warriors because it really showed what it was like to live in the Bronze Age. The mixture of short and long sentences really made you feel like you were there and "what's going to happen next". After already reading one of Michelle Paver's books, I already know what an amazing author she was, but this really blew me away.

It is the best book I've ever read. My favourite character is Hylas. He was adventurous and never said no to anything. I would recommend this amazing book to people who like adventure stories.

4. I chose to read gods and warriors because the front cover looked like it was drawing me in already with the colours and imagery just dragging me closer and closer until I finally decided to read it.

I found the book really interesting. The main story line is that there is a man who started a war and had to run for his life while facing obstacles on the way.

I think the history comes from Bronze Age. I thought it was very

realistic because the author made it come to life with brilliant words to describe the characters in the setting.

I would recommend gods and warriors to people age 10 upwards, who enjoy adventure stories.
