Enquiry: What do the remains of the First World War reveal about Muslim soldiers who fought for Britain?

This series of lessons has been designed to teach students something of the role of Muslim soldiers in the British Army in the First World War. It emphasises diversity, reveals motives and attitudes from the time, and enables judgements about how attitudes to the significance of their contribution have changed over time. British Muslim pupils can see people of their faith represented in the history curriculum and other pupils are made more aware of that identity and its contribution to British identity as a whole. The narrative is not simplistic and students are encouraged to see the diversity and nuance that is a key part of the topic.
