Dr Michael Riley
Michael is Director of the Schools History Project and a history teacher at Huish Episcopi Academy, Somerset. He has taught in schools in Tanzania, Yorkshire and Somerset, and has worked as History Adviser in Somerset and as Course Leader for the History PGCE at Bath Spa University. Michael has written a range of articles, textbooks and on-line learning materials. He regularly provides professional development for history teachers both in the UK and overseas Much of his work focuses on helping teachers to plan for effective learning in history with a particular emphasis on historical enquiry.
Simon Harrison
Simon is currently Deputy Head teacher at a large comprehensive school in Hampshire and chair of the Historical Association Secondary Committee. He has 17 years experience as a history teacher, with roles including head of department and advanced skills teacher. He has organised training, and written for, a range of audiences on both history teaching and educational leadership.
Alison Stephen
Alison has been teaching since 1993. She has taught history in Budapest, at a sixth form college, a grammar school, and two comprehensive school in the Greater Manchester area and is currently Head of History at Abraham Moss High School, Manchester.
Alison has given lectures to and mentored trainee teachers, as well as writing for two books about teaching history. As the Historical Association's regional subject adviser for the North-West for from 2007-2010, her role was to help history teachers in the implementation of the new Secondary Curriculum.
Clare Buxton
Clare is a Head of History at Harris Academy South Norwood and has been teaching 10 years previously at a large mixed comprehensive in Chislehurst, Kent.
Barbara Sands
Barbara is the former Head of Pre Prep at a Gloucestershire Prep School and is currently teaching in both state and independent sectors in Gloucestershire and South Gloucestershire.
Her development and use of creative and imaginative classroom activities have come to attention of the Historical Association and she has had seven articles published in HA's Primary History Journal across KS1 and KS2 curriculum.
Recently she collaborated on KS2 workshop at Kensington Palace with Historic Royal Palaces. Barbara is a member of HA Primary Committee.
Ben Walsh has been involved in history teaching for 25 years, as a teacher, head of department, textbook author and senior examiner. He is also Deputy President of the Historical Association. His time is now divided between: writing textbooks for Hodder Education; authoring resources for the National Archives and other archives; examination work and research into the use of ICT in History teaching.
