Teaching History feature
Who would true valour see...let him (or her) lead a school re-enactment group
While many teachers may have called on the services of historical re-enactors to inspire their students and create a living sense of the past, few have taken on the challenge of establishing their own historical re-enactment group. And yet its power to promote sustained independent historical enquiry, to develop detailed and rich knowledge and to ignite a deep and enduring fascination with the past is immense. While few may go as far as ‘a school-trip to late fourteenth-century Denmark', the ideas offered here can help all teachers find ways of making the lives of people in the past more real to our students.
