Millie Marvel, PGCE Student is not making use of ICT to teach history in the classroom

Problem:

Millie Marvel, student history teacher, is in Term 2 of her PGCE year. She enjoys using ICT and is highly competent in her use of several applications. However, lessons in which she has chosen to use ICT to teach history have not been a success. Pupils were engaged and enjoyed using the computers. Millie was pleased with Year 9's newspaper front pages giving different versions of the Poor Law Amendment Act. However, both her mentor and her university tutor know that this has not enabled her to meet the subject-specific dimensions of the new ICT training curriculum. Some pupils even wrote their newspaper account in rough and used the computer to type it up! The wordprocessing functions were not being used in order to help pupils of different abilities to make real progress in organising and wording their ideas. The ICT was not being used to serve history learning objectives.
