Julian is nearing the end of his first term of teacher training and his mentor has only just learned that acute financial pressures mean that he is having to undertake a lot of part-time work alongside learning to teach. Julian is acutely conscious of the weight of debt that he has already incurred in completing his undergraduate degree, and he has no family resources on which to draw to supplement yet another year of student fees. He has therefore been trying to support himself by working all day on Saturdays as a retail assistant and spending five hours a week tutoring online...
