Teaching Robin Hood at Key Stage 1

The stories of Robin Hood, which date from the Middle Ages, are integral to an understanding of British history. Although historians have not been able to identify a single historical figure that can be called Robin Hood, rooted in evidence, the myth or legend of Robin Hood has had a significant influence on English culture for hundreds of years. Just as the Greek myths inform us about the historic culture of Ancient Greece, Robin Hood reveals much about the values and culture of English society from the Middle Ages to the present. Robin Hood has significance in relation to an understanding of English identity and can be explored through the Key Stage 1 curriculum in terms of the lives of significant individuals, with a caveat about whether he existed or not...
