With over 45 vibrant local branches across the UK running over 300 history talks and visits annually, the HA branch network is a great way to socialise and meet like-minded people in your local area. As a member you are automatically affiliated to your local branch and can attend all talks across the UK for free.

Membership includes a subscription to our quarterly magazine The Historian. Each edition focuses on a historical theme and showcases articles on international and local history from specialists in their field. Forthcoming editions include new approaches to local history, historical literature, and multiculturalism. You’ll also find regular features which highlight The Historian’s chronological and geographical range including ‘My favourite history place’, ‘out and about’, book reviews, and more!

As a member you can access hundreds of fascinating history podcasts, pamphlets, articles and publications on the HA website. Our history podcasts recorded with expert historians, and covering all themes and periods of history from Ancient to Modern. These bite-size 15-20 minute podcasts are an easy and enjoyable way to explore more about the topics you love - as well as the ones you're less familiar with!
Want to engage with history lectures and academics, but find it hard to visit local branches? We run a free programme of history webinars for members, which allow you to enjoy history content from the comfort of your own home.
Our digitised classic pamphlets are also a fantastic source for research and enjoyment alike.

The HA is a registered charity and our mission is to develop the teaching, learning and enjoyment of history at all levels. As well as offering a range of history resources, the HA supports quality history teaching in schools from early years to Sixth Form, and campaigns to raise the profile of history teaching in schools. Our not-for-profit membership structure invests in this support for future generations.
