I returned to both the Church Of The Ascension School and Colley Lane Primary School early in January to complete the follow up workshop. This was an opportunity for both schools to demonstrate what they had achieved in their own campaigns.

They chose:

Colley Lane - A Local Charity Food Bank.

Church Of The Ascension Y5 - Healthy Lifestyles and Y6 - The disposal of waste in the local area.

Colley Lane Pupils had chosen the Local Charity Food Bank as they considered the plight of people on low incomes in the area on the lead up to Christmas. Their campaign in school used poster and talks to get their message across to other pupils and parents; they also visited a neighbouring Primary School to introduce them to the Food Bank.

At the Church Of The Ascension School Year Five put together a performed presentation of all aspects of having a healthy lifestyle, including smoking, exercise, drink and drugs, while Year Six are involved in an ongoing project investigating what happens to household waste in their area. They are to take their findings to a Debate later in the year in which other schools participate.

Tenterfields pupils approached their follow up activities in a different way due to the lack of time between workshops and to fit in with their curriculum work. The class teacher and pupils decided they wanted to share their newfound local history knowledge with others in school; staff, pupils and visitors were given a display of historical facts in the form of posters, which were displayed within the school.

The second workshop was then rounded off with some final drama activities focusing on the Women Chain Makers Strike Of 1910 and the story behind the creation of the anchor and chain for the Titanic by Noah Hingleys Of Netherton.

All participating pupils completed an evaluation activity of the project and of the ways in which they enjoy learning about history. The results have been complied as one report with all three schools combined together. Please see separate document.
