Webinar series: Deep dive with confidence

HA webinar series for current and aspiring primary history subject leaders

"This series was very useful in preparing for Ofsted and ensuring I was considering the curriculum outcomes sufficiently."

What does this series cover?

We are pleased to offer teachers another chance to access this series of webinars which will address the implications of the 2023 Ofsted subject report for primary history and support you to more confidently prepare for an Ofsted deep dive in primary history. Following consideration of the subject report, the sessions will be broken up into the three main elements of a deep dive and focus on considerations that history teachers could focus on in preparing for an Ofsted visit in their subject.

  • How is the series structured and delivered?

The series consists of four webinars. The live session dates are detailed below.

Session 1: What does the new Ofsted subject report tell us about history in primary schools?
    Monday 30 September, 4pm–5pm

This webinar will explore the key statements from Ofsted’s most recent subject report. This will include an oversight of the findings on primary history around curriculum design, pedagogy, and assessment. The session will also highlight some of the good practice witnessed from the report and include some considerations for history subject leaders about their next steps.

Session 2: Ideas for building your history intent in primary history
    Monday 7 October, 4pm–5pm

This webinar will explore the importance of thinking about how broad and balanced your curriculum is, including how your curriculum is sequenced in terms of substantive and disciplinary knowledge so it becomes a progression model for your pupils. This links to Ofsted’s report about planning for progression in disciplinary and substantive knowledge so teachers have confidence with emphasising important content so pupils learn and remember more.

Session 3: Ideas for building your history implementation in primary history
    Tuesday 15 October, 4pm–5pm

This webinar will look at ways to maximise how teachers have good subject knowledge about the topics they teach. The course will also consider methods of assessment in primary history that are beneficial for both the teacher and the pupil.

Session 4: Ideas for measuring impact in history in primary history
    Monday 21 October, 4pm–5pm

This webinar will consider ways you can measure the impact of your curriculum, and ensure your pupils are ready for the next stage of their education. This is not just about gathering data, but also how tasks teachers set allow pupils to get to destinations for meeting the intent of your primary curriculum.
