Apartheid
In this podcast Dr Tim Gibbs of University College London looks at the development and eventual fall of apartheid.
The system of racial segregation in South Africa that was apartheid led to one of the most distinct and unjust systems of government in late twentieth century history. This podcast examines how the system was established to exploit black African workers and to ensure minority rule.
The manner in which dissent and then violence grew in opposition to apartheid is discussed alongside the few concessions that an increasingly brutal and scared white South African government took when facing pressure from all angles to change. The issues of how apartheid finally came to an end and how the injustices that it had created and left still have a legacy in modern day South Africa are part of this fascinating podcast series.
