Bolton Vice-President Receives National Award

The Vice-President of the Bolton Branch of the Historical Association has received a national award for services to history.

Dr Glyn Redworth has been made an Honorary Fellow of the Historical Association and was presented with his award by Association President, Professor Jackie Eales, at a ceremony in London. Fellowships are awarded not only for services to the Historical Association but also for making a particularly distinguished contribution to the promotion of historical scholarship or the teaching of history.  Dr Redworth is Reader in History at the University of Manchester where he teaches the history of early modern Europe and beyond.  He is a regular speaker to Historical Association branches across the country and recorded some of the first H.A. podcasts on Golden Age Spain. 

His recent publications include a biography entitled ‘The She-Apostle', which tells the story of the first female Catholic missionary to England, Luisa de Carvajal.  Dr Redworth will speak to the Bolton branch on 7th October 2013, in a lecture aimed particularly at A-level students entitled ‘Elizabeth I: The Same Old Picture'.  He will give a radical re-appraisal of the reign of this famous monarch.  The branch season will begin on 9th September when a short AGM will be followed by a lecture by Mr Benjamin Wilcock, lecture investigating shopping habits in Manchester and Bolton.  For more information about the branch please contact the secretary, Mrs Jenni Hyde on 01772 930330, or email boltonhistory@aol.com.
