Key national History Subject Associations and institutes in the UK and their remits
Three Subject Associations and a key national institute keep a watching brief as part of much wider remits on issues pertaining to the relationship of history as it is taught and researched in British universities and history as it is taught and learned in schools. Their interests inevitably overlap, but they each have a distinct character and configuration. On many occasions, they work very effectively together either to represent History as a subject in policy debates, to organise events and initiatives relating to history teaching, or to gather or supply information relevant to teachers in schools and/or in universities. They are nevertheless distinct, and even where an issue may have relevance to all three, it is best to seek information or raise a question with the organisation to whose remit it is most directly relevant.
These organisations are:
