A-Levels to Get Harder? 2012
This week, the government has announced news that steps will be taken to make A-Level examinations harder; this will include input from universities. Steps taken will make it more difficult to pass A-Level examinations and therefore result in a lowering of the numbers entering university. The government hopes that these steps will halt the steady rise in A-Level passes. Teaching unions however defend the rise in the pass-rate as the result of good teaching and hard work. The idea of a small elite group of universities setting the A-Level curriculum is also a worrying sign for many teachers.
In addition to this, there is also talk of similar changes taking place at GCSE, with the removal of coursework and the removal of several vocational subjects from the league tables.
