Description: Walter Bagehot (1826-1877) has a world-wide reputation as a commentator on banking and financial subjects and an authority on constitutional matters, especially on Parliament, Government and the Monarchy. However, few people know much about his life and how his Somerset roots shaped his thinking and his writing. This talk will outline his background, his experience, and his significance.
